You Really Should Find a Coach in Order to Play Tennis Well!

So you may say I don't even know if I need a coach much less where to find a coach. Searching for the right tennis coach can be time consuming and frustrating.

Whether you are looking for one for yourself to help hone your own skills or if you are trying to help build a champion junior player, the process of finding a coach can take time, effort and energy.

Getting the proper instruction can make all the difference. Maybe you have taken a lesson in the past from word-of-mouth or recommendations and found that the coach just did not fit or meet your goals.

Well, that is why we are here to point individuals in the right direction and get them playing and playing well.

We are joining pros with players here so that this process can be made easier. One of the questions that you can and should ask your prospective coach is does he have any teaching credentials? Basically there are two main governing organizations that "test" or certify instructors they are the USPTA and PTR.

Selecting the Right Coach

Tennis CoachThose instructors go through a course to first of all see whether they in fact do know how to play.

Secondly, the course attempts to insure that all of their instructors are teaching based on some form of curriculum.

Whether you find a coach through either organization does not necessarily mean that that coach however is the right choice for you.

I once had a student that came to me for about six months but he had to travel some distance to get to where I was teaching.

He decided to go find a coach at a court that was closer to his home.

Unfortunately, for him he learned that the coach that he worked with did a lot of swearing at him if he didn't hit the ball correctly.

After about three lessons he returned to continue his lessons with me.

Now I am not saying that everyone can get along with every coach. Maybe that particular coach has a great following. But for this particular individual it was not a good fit.

One thing that I have learned over the years of teaching is that the more I teach, the better player I become.

Well, that may seem strange to you but in order for me to teach you to do something, I must know the theory behind it and be able to reproduce the technique, right?

Man, if only I would have started teaching first when I started learning, I would have become a much better player... and who knows?

Enough about that, this is after all about "you" finding a coach!

Goals, Dreams, Visionsfind a coach

Make sure that the coach understands your goals in learning.

I had a student that told me that he just wanted to use tennis a s a part of his workout regiment and was not necessarily interested in getting his strokes "better".

So, when he came for a lesson I made sure that he got a good workout.

Maybe you have seen tennis on television and dreamed of somehow being able to hit like the pros.

Then you need to learn the "Modern Game". If there are individuals that are at your club or local and they are taking lessons this is more than likely what they will learn.

It is doubtful that you will be able to beat these individuals unless you also learn the latest method of instruction.

It is not just a dream or too far fetched to believe that you could do it. However, it will take time and you will need to find a coach!
