Kids Tennis Shoes: choosing the correct footwear for the sport

Finding kid's tennis shoes at your local retailer can be difficult. Finding the correct shoes for children can also be a task. Partly because as parents sometimes we just go with the most inexpensive shoes for our kids because they tend to grow so fast.

This can however be a mistake as junior tennis players too can get foot and ankle injuries from wearing the wrong type of shoes just like adults. Kids Tennis ShoesSee my top three recommendations.

Case in point is from a recent tennis camp that I ran and one of my nine year old students turned her ankle while wearing running shoes.

I felt so bad for her as I believe that this could have been avoided if her mother had known that there is a difference in footwear for tennis versus running or walking shoes.

I applied ice to the ankle to alleviate any swelling and wrapped it so that she could continue to play that day but, it affected her mobility for the rest of the week.

Kid's Tennis shoes need to have more lateral (side to side) stability than a normal shoe due to the constant change of direction while moving in various directions to hit the ball.

These shoes can cost a little more however, the time and money that an injury can cost I believe makes paying a little more upfront well worth it.

Sometimes when shopping for kids tennis shoes, they often make a choice based on color or what someone else is wearing or by trying to make a fashion statement.

We have to make the best choice for kids tennis shoes based on the particular sport that they are participating in no matter what that sports is. After all the number one reason that we wear shoes in the first place is to protect our feet!

Just remember when choosing them that kids are not just little adults, they are still growing and their feet need extra care.

4 Month Wear-out Warranty

Some manufacturers have decided to offer a four month wear-out warranty to help save you money.

What that means is that if you have an active child and they wear out the soles of their tennis shoes within four months, they will replace them at no charge.

This is similar to the adult version of this warranty which is six months. Usually if you have a growing child, they may actually outgrow their shows before they wear them out.
